Perform preliminary site analysis – conduct a site analysis concentrating on several essential questions required to resolve the viability of system. These might include the client’s recommendations and apprehensions, the accessible solar resources, the ecological conditions, structural and electrical conditions. Classification of these dynamics begins the site survey process, which impacts all other successive system designs and installation task, including deciding on equipment, formulating proposals, conducting value engineering, and preparation and finishing installations.
Customer Development – Some clients are well informed and know exactly what the want while other clients need explanations to questions about systems price, capabilities and performance. Cost and funding usually are the major concern of clients. State and federal incentives and selling of renewable credits to help off set a portion of the cost are available and a significant portion of a system is financeable. The scheduling of the project should be discussed with the client to understand lead times on permits, utility interconnection agreements, material shipments and installation. Create a flexible schedule around material and shipment delays and weather delays.
Solar Resource – conduct research identifying solar radiation for the site survey and designing the system for creating the best value for system performance. In addition, analyzing the data for different tilt angles for peak performance of system.
Ecological Conditions – conduct research on weather and environmental conditions for proposed site. Data collected for temperature, wind speed, precipitation and humidity utilized in designing performance and operation of a system.
Roofing Evaluation – perform analysis of existing roof covering and structural support to ascertain the viability of a renewable energy system considering a rooftop installation.
Electrical Assessment – perform assessment for the potential impact of interfacing between a PV system and the existing electrical systems and equipment. Surveying existing conditions of size, ratings of electric service, conductors, overcurrent protection devices, disconnects and transformers.
Code Compliance – conduct research of building and zoning codes requirements understanding necessary information to gather during site assessment and for subsequent planning, system design and installation of system. Insuring that system components, interconnections, and attachments meet local jurisdiction having authority.
Utility Interconnection – contact local authorities and power company-having jurisdiction. Work with the client to help them understand terms and conditions of agreements. Assist client in preparation of interconnection agreements and preparing exhibits required for the interconnection agreement application.
Proposal – prepare written proposal using all the data collected that includes a description of services, schedule, specific equipment installed, cost, performance expectations for the owners approval.
Installation and Planning – after the proposal has been accepted and contract established, formal planning and preparation for the installation begins. The initial site assessment is used to build upon the design and execution of the installation. Drawings are finalized and submitted for permit, interconnection agreement. Once plans are approved the material can be released for delivery to the job site. Completion of the installation of system the authorities having jurisdiction are notified to inspect the installation. Receiving their approval the system can be commissioned and placed in service.
